Anambra police, vigilantes arrest 11 rapists in 1 week

The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with vigilantes, arrested 11 suspects for rape and defilement in the last one week.

City & Crime reports that on July 11, 2023, a video clip went viral showing a young woman aged 19 being gang raped by a group of boys and an investigation revealed that the incident happened in Orama-Etiti, Anam, in Anambra West LGA.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, explained that the police in Otuocha collaborated with vigilantes and arrested six suspects involved in the criminal act.

He named them as Chinua Obikezie (17), Collins Ogbodo (19), Ifeanyi Chijoke (17), Abuchi Ikechukwu (17), Ezenwa Afam (18) and Sunday Okafor (27), noting that three other suspects implicated in the act were still at large.

He said that in a similar development the police in Abagana while on patrol with vigilantes on July 8, 2023, arrested three suspects on the allegation of rape of a 15-year-old girl.

He named the suspects as Chimezie Odugwu (21), Nnamdi Anodebe (19) and Jude Onua (48).

In a related development, DSP Tochukwu said that police operatives from Ekwulobia Division arrested one Chinenye Ezemehege (41) in connection with the case of defilement of a 13-year-old girl.

He also disclosed that police operatives attached to Atani Division on July 13, 2023, arrested one Odimako Ikenga (38) in Ossomala village, Ogbaru LGA, noting that he had been on the wanted list of the police in an ongoing investigation of a case of defilement of a 12-year-old girl reported to the division on August 28, 2022.
