Suspected bandits attacked a local vigilantes’ camp in the Shuwaka area of the western Kamuku forest under Kakangi Ward in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday evening, resulted in the deaths of three local vigilantes and the abduction of over 20 villagers.

This incident comes less than 48 hours after the bandits killed four local vigilantes and a mobile policeman on Sunday afternoon.

During the Sunday encounter between police, vigilantes and bandits, several bandits were reportedly neutralized, while others escaped with bullet wounds.

A local source, whose relative was among those abducted in the latest attack, stated that the bandits specifically targeted the vigilantes’ camp due to its strategic location.

“Three vigilantes were killed on Tuesday evening when the bandits attacked their camp at Shuwaka area of western Kamuku forest under Kakangi Ward.

“Over 20 people were also abducted from their farms at Kurgin Gabas, Sabon Layi area. This happened after the Sunday incident,” he said.

Yahaya Musa Dan Salio, the member representing Kakangi Constituency at the State House Assembly, confirmed the incident and described it as worrisome.

Ishaq Kasai, former Chairman of the Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU), also confirmed the incident.

Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached for comment.
