Property developer refutes fresh acquisition of Abuja estate

The Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of Jonah Capital Ltd and Houses for Africa Nigeria, Kojo Ansah Mensah, has refuted reports of an acquisition of Abuja estate by new owners.

Daily Trust had, in a report on Monday, quoted Mr Paul Odili as saying that he had fully acquired the River Park Estate, Lugbe, Abuja from its former shareholders.

Mr Odili was quoted as saying, “Now, all shares previously owned by Houses for Africa have been sold to me. As of January 30th, 2025, I will be the sole owner of River Park Estate, Jonah Capital Limited, and Houses for Africa Nigeria.”

However, in a rejoinder dated January 27, 2025, Mensah said no such transaction, sale, or transfer has taken place.

The firm said the individual purporting to sell the company was a former employee who resigned in 2014 and has never been a shareholder and does not hold an executive or board position.

Explaining that no board meeting or board resolution has been convened to sanction the action, Mensah cited a court injunction against any trespass on the estate.

“It is evident that the collaborators are attempting to divert attention from the ongoing court cases regarding land encroachment against them, thereby subverting the course of justice,” he said.

While reiterating that there has been no sale or transfer of the company’s shares, Jonah Capital Ltd advised the public to cross-check records at government agencies and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), where company registrations are recorded and lodged to ascertain the shareholding and assess ongoing cases related to land encroachment.

Jonah Capital reaffirmed that it had on May 28, 2007, signed a development lease with the government to develop the estate on Plot 4 Cadastral Zone L05 measuring approximately 501 hectares, adding that the development carried out by the parties restrained by the court in Cluster 5A of the estate measuring 15 hectares was done without recourse to it.
