Menstrual hygiene: HAFAI launches ‘Safe Space’ in Abuja IDP camp

The Health Aid for All Initiative (HAFAI) has launched ‘Safe Space for Girls’ in the Durumi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, Abuja, to assist girls with menstrual hygiene.

The foundation also donated reusable menstrual kits to the girls and sensitised them on myths about menstruation.

Speaking during the exercise yesterday, the Executive Director of HAFAI, Dr Ugochi Ohajuruka, described menstrual hygiene as the ability to manage menstruation conveniently by using clean menstrual materials with soap and water for bathing and washing in a safe environment with confidence and dignity.

While noting that women and girls came across various challenges such as inadequate or lack of menstrual products to use during their periods. Speaking on the theme for this year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day, “We Are committed,” she said HAFAI was committed to building a world where no one was held back because they menstruated.

She further said, “As an organisation, our aim is to tackle menstrual stigma, provide knowledge of proper menstrual health and provide eco-friendly menstrual solutions to vulnerable girls.
