Support me to bring Sokoto back on track, Gov-elect tells PDP, others

The Sokoto State Governor-elect, Ahmed Aliyu, says he needs the support of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties in the state to bring Sokoto back on track.
Aliyu said this on Thursday after he and the Deputy Governor-elect, Idris Mohammed Gobir  received their certificate of returns.
All the 30 members-elect of the State House of Assembly also received their certificates of return in a ceremony which took place at the INEC Collation centre along Tangaza road.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has 20 members while PDP has 10 members.
In his acceptance speech, Aliyu solicited the support of opposition parties to bring the state back on course.
“This victory is not for me alone. It is for the entire people of Sokoto State who voted for change.
“I am, therefore, appealing to members of the opposition parties to join hands with me to take our dear state to a greater height. Let us bring our state back on course for the good of all,” he said.
Earlier, the National Commissioner of Independent National Electoral Commission in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, Professor Muhammad Sani Kalla, said the election had come and gone and the people of the state made their own choices.
According to him, the performance of all stakeholders during the election was impressive.
He prayed Allah to guide and sustain the elected officials on the right path, and make their administration beneficial to all the people of the state and the nation at large.
Also speaking, the state chairman of APC, Isa Sadiq Achida, called on the opposition parties, particularly PDP to support the newly elected governor based on an earlier agreement.
