Nicola Sturgeon, former Scottish First Minister has been arrested in connection with a police investigation into the Scottish National Party’s (SNP) funding.
The police investigation is looking at what happened to more than 600,000 pounds ($750,000) raised by Scottish independence campaigners in 2017, which was supposed to have been ring-fenced but may have been used for other purposes.
Reuters quoted a spokesperson for Sturgeon as saying: “Nicola Sturgeon has today, Sunday 11th June, by arrangement with Police Scotland, attended an interview where she was to be arrested and questioned. Nicola has consistently said she would co-operate with the investigation if asked and continues to do so.”
In a tweet earlier, Police Scotland said a 52-year-old woman had been arrested as a suspect in connection with the ongoing investigation into the funding and finances of the SNP.

“The woman is in custody and is being questioned by Police Scotland detectives. As the investigation is ongoing we are unable to comment further,” Police Scotland tweeted.
Sturgeon’s husband, Peter Murrell and the party’s then treasurer were both arrested and then released without charge in April pending further investigation as part of the same inquiry.
At the time of Murrell’s arrest, police carried out a lengthy search of the couple’s home in Glasgow, which was sealed off with blue and white police tape.
In February, Sturgeon, Scotland’s longest serving leader of its semi-autonomous government, announced her resignation, saying she had become too divisive to lead her country to independence.
