A police officer in Delta State, who allegedly shot a motorist in a viral video, has been arrested and detained.

DSP Bright Edafe, Delta Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a post via X on Tuesday night.

Edafe expressed disappointment over the unprofessional conduct of the officer.

A netizen had shared some videos on the platform showing police operatives moving around a vehicle along Ughelli road, in which the driver was said to have been shot in the leg and abdomen.

The motorist whose identity is yet unknown, was according to one of the videos, shot on the leg and stomach.

The netizen tagged Edafe to the post.

“Operative of the Nigeria Police Force on stop and check along east west road Ughelli, has allegedly opened fire on a boy, with a bullet hitting his leg and abdomen….. @Brightgoldenboy no go see this one………….una no go check the wolfs wey una give uniform and gun,” the X user captioned the post.

Quoting the post, the PPRO wrote: “The Nigeria Police Force does not and will never tolerate unprofessional conduct from any personnel.

“On this premise, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass ordered the immediate detention of the erring Police Inspector.

“The injured victim is being treated. Meanwhile, the CP urges members of the public to remain calm, as he guarantees justice.”
