NSCIA to FG: Implement policies that will alleviate poverty, hardship

A prominent Nigerian Islamic scholar and Chairman of the Fatwa Committee of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Sheikh Shariff Saleh-Al-Hussaini, has appealed to the federal government to address the growing economic difficulties faced by Nigerians.

He made the appeal on Wednesday while addressing a media parley at his residence in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

He expressed concern over the widespread hardship, urging authorities to implement policies that will alleviate poverty and improve the living conditions of the populace.

Sheikh Saleh-Al-Hussaini called for economic, security and religious harmony in Nigeria.

He also called on religious adherents across the country to maintain peace and harmony, regardless of their differences.

He emphasised the importance of unity and tolerance as essential components for national development, calling on leaders of various faiths to promote dialogue and mutual understanding.

The respected Islamic scholar urged the government to intensify efforts to restore lasting security across Nigeria.

He highlighted the need to tackle insurgency, banditry, and other forms of insecurity threatening the nation, stressing that peace is a prerequisite for economic recovery and social stability.

He called on all Nigerians to play their part in enhancing national security, fostering unity and peace, and achieving sustainable development.

According to him, every Nigerian has a role to play in ensuring the country achieves lasting economic growth and development.

Sheikh Saleh-Al-Hussaini also expressed gratitude to the management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, for recently conferring an honorary doctorate degree on him.

“The most important lesson on the conferment of an honorary doctorate degree on me by the management of ABU is that our institutions are recognising the contributions of religious leaders to nation-building,” he said.

Sheikh Saleh-Al-Hussaini urged media practitioners to prioritise national interest and promote good governance in carrying out their constitutional duties.

Sheikh Saleh-Al-Hussaini also urged public officeholders to listen to and respect the opinions and concerns of citizens as reported in the media.

The cleric pointed out that God did not err in uniting the various ethnic groups under one political entity called Nigeria.

The cleric further urged Nigerians to deepen their devotion to the Almighty God with full submission and to pray earnestly for the nation’s well-being and the restoration of peace in areas affected by insecurity.
