My wife’s death case of armed robbery not assassination – Aghanya

Retired Commissioner of Police, CP Ibezimako Aghanya (rtd.), on Monday, ruled out an assassination case in the murder of his wife, Eunice, alleging armed robbers as possible perpetrators.

The deceased, Eunice, was found dead in her home Friday with a deep cut on her head as well as traces of blood on her windows which suggested a case of murder.

But, her husband, a former commissioner of Police in Benue and Kogi states respectively, CP Aghanya, averred that the murder of his wife was purely a case of broad daylight robbery.

Aghanya also posited when he received the state Governor, Samuel Ortom, and other top officials at his residence in Makurdi, that his late wife may have returned home to meet the robber(s) who might have panicked and killed her to conceal their identities.

“It was not a case of hired assassination.

“Somebody or some persons had broken into the house to steal when she suddenly entered and saw the intruder(s) whom she probably recognized.

“So, the intruder killed her to conceal evidence. It was a broad daylight robbery,” he said.

The retired police commissioner, who conducted the governor around the scene of the incident in the house, believed that the intruder(s) who must have been inside the house before his wife came in at about 1 pm that day, broke into the house through the ceiling.

Governor Ortom, on his part, while condoling the bereaved husband and the family, described the murder of Eunice as very condemnable, urging all Benue people to be their brothers’ keepers by being vigilant and swiftly report any suspicious movement to security agencies for immediate action.

Ortom added, “We must all be our brothers’ keepers.

“The population has overgrown and the number of police we have can no longer cope with the increasing number of people in a country of over 200million with only 400,000 police. This is grossly inadequate.

“President gave a directive that every year, 10,000 police should be recruited.

“I, therefore, urge those who are concerned to resolve their matter because if we ever need security, it is now. With the high level of banditry, insurgency, kidnapping and so on, we need more security.

“In the interim, let us all be our brother’s keepers.

“When we sleep, we should be alert in our neighbourhood and promptly report any suspicious movement.”

Meanwhile, the police in the state confirmed the arrest of one person in connection with the murder of the woman popularly known as ‘Euniland.’
