Thousands of mourners have stormed Kano to witness the funeral of the mother of Emirs of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero and that of Bichi, Nasiru Ado Bayero, Hajiya Maryam Ado Bayero who was on Monday laid to rest.
Chief Imam of Kano, Professor Muhammad Sani Zahraddeen led the funeral prayer held at the Kano Emir’s Palace in Kofar Kudu.

The funeral was graced by the Federal Government delegation led by Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari (who is her younger brother), accompanied by ministers of Defense, Bashir Magashi; Aviation, Hadi Sirika; Justice, Abubakar Malami; Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi; Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu and Yusuf Buhari.
Similarly, the funeral had in attendance the representative of Sultan of Sokoto, Emirs of Ilorin, Hadejia, Katagum, Bauchi, Fika, Kagara, Kanam, Kazaure, Karaye, Rano, Dass, Potiskum, Ningi and Keffi among others.
She was buried in the Sheka Hubbare cemetery, the resting place of all the Kano princesses from the Fulani dynasty in the Emir’s Palace.
Daily Trust reports that late Maryam Bayero, who was in her early 89s died on Saturday after a brief illness in Cairo, Egypt.
She was the wife of late Emir Ado Bayero and a princess of Ilorin Emirate in Kwara state.
Before observing the funeral prayer, Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje led the Federal Government delegation alongside other dignitaries to Malam Aminu Kano International to convey the deceased coming from Egypt via Abuja.
At the Palace, Prof Gambari appreciated the entire lifetime of the late Maryam Ado Bayero, saying that “Her royal blood extended to many generations from both sides of her parents.”
In his response Emir of Kano Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, while commending the federal and state governments for the show of concern and respect to them, described the late mother “As a mother for all. We never saw her as only our mother, she was a mother to all. And that was what she exhibited when she was alive.”
“On behalf of Kano and Bichi Emirates, other Emirates in the state, government and people of Kano state, we are very grateful for this all-important condolence visit,” he appreciated.
