Many injured, as loyalists of 2 suspended chiefs clash in Taraba

Many people have been injured in clashes between loyalists of two suspended chiefs of Sansani chiefdom in Gassol local government area of Taraba.

Daily Trust gathered that there was sporadic shooting in the town  Tuesday night while some houses burnt down.

Daily Trust gathered that trouble started when Taraba state government suspended the third-class chief Abdulmudallabi Muhammed and appointed his brother Gide Muhammed as acting chief.

The development it was further gathered did not go down well with sections of people loyal to the suspended chief.

Days after the appointment of the acting chief, the state government issued another letter instructing him to step.

A senior village head was directed to oversee the affairs of the chiefdom.

Sections loyal to Gide Muhammed, who was directed to step down, accused groups loyal to his brother of influencing government’s decision to sack him.

It resulted in a confrontation that has left many injured and houses burnt.

Some of loyalists to both suspended chiefs have been forced to relocate out of the town along with their families because of the tension.

The police spoke person, DSP Usman Abdullahi, when contacted said he has not received details of the incident from the police Divisional officer in charge of Gassol.
