Loyalists, associates vow to shut down Rivers for Wike’s birthday

Loyalists, associates, and friends of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, are planning a grand celebration to mark his birthday, with activities set to dominate Rivers State, particularly Port Harcourt, on Friday.

The occasion is being positioned as a show of Wike’s unrivalled political leadership in Rivers amidst ongoing tensions between him and the state governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara. This has led to concerns over a clash between loyalists of both political leaders.

Various new groups and movements are expected to parade at different venues to celebrate the former governor’s birth anniversary.

Leading the preparations is the NEW Associates, a political movement named after Wike’s initials: Nyesom Ezenwo Wike. Other groups, such as Wikematic Youths, Wikematic Women, and the Rivers Ijaw Progressive Congress (RIPCO), are also mobilising for the event.

The Convener of the NEW Associates, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, stated that supporters were eagerly anticipating the event.

Sekibo remarked, “Despite all efforts of the betrayers, the minister has kept our political family in Rivers intact. He remains the indisputable leader of Rivers politics. He has survived all machinations and, by God’s grace, continues to grow stronger.”
