Kebbi State government on Thursday commenced free distribution of fertilisers worth N2.3m to farmers in the 21 local government areas of the state.

While flagging off distribution of the fertilisers to farmers in the Kardi area of the state, Governor Nasiru Idris said his administration is making history by giving fertilisers to farmers in the state free of charge to fulfil their yearnings and aspirations.

He said “It’s our campaigning promise to provide farmers with farm inputs such as fertiliser, insecticide and farm implements. We just started and we are good to go.

“Today, we are distributing fertilisers worth N2.3m to our farmers across the 225 wards in 21 local government areas of the state free of charge”.

He added that the timing for the fertilisers distribution was right as farmers are now in their planting season. “I’m happy that our farmers in the troubled area of Kebbi South have also returned to the farms as we are providing security for them,” he said.

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Tafida said the operational guideline for the fertiliser distribution across the 225 wards of the 21 local governments would be made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs.
