Sporting Lagos’ visit to Kano ended with disappointment as the hosts avenged the first leg loss with a hard-fought 1-0 win in the early games of the matchday 27 fixtures of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League season yesterday.

It will be recalled that Pillars had lost 3-0 away at the Onikan Stadium during the first stanza last year.

Pillars who were desirous to earn all maximum points kicked off the game with intensity while putting their visitors in confusion at the Sani Abacha stadium, Kano.

In later moments of the game, the momentum shifted to the visitors with Junior Lokosa keeping the home fans in fear.

In the second half, Pillars broke the deadlock in the 48th minute through Mustapha Umar who scored the only goal of the game as the four-time league champions are placed 6th on the log with 41 points to end a winless run of 5 matches. In the same vein, Sporting Lagos are 11th with 34 points.

In the other game played, Doma United held Gombe United to a 1-1 draw in Savannah derby game at the Pantami Stadium.

David Nnaji had put Gombe in front in the 12th minute but Doma got back in the contest through Usman Musa’s finish in the 63rd minute to end the game 1-1.

Doma United FC are now without a win in 10 straight games, a run of form that has seen them drop from 3rd position to 10th place.
