Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has commissioned the Buni Gari Dam and Water Treatment Plant, which has the capacity to supply 300,000 litres of water daily to the benefiting communities.
The project, executed in his hometown, is expected to significantly address the long-standing water scarcity in Buni Gari, Buni Yadi, and surrounding communities.
Governor Buni explained that the dam has a storage capacity of approximately 243 million litres of water and includes an intake structure, pumping system, generator, and solar-powered system that pumps water to the treatment plant, which then supplies 300,000 litres of water daily to the communities.
Also, Governor Buni commissioned the Water Quality Laboratory at the Ministry of Water Resources Complex in Damaturu. The laboratory is designed to enhance water monitoring and quality assurance throughout the state.

The governor also flagged off the Flood Erosion Control Project in Buni Yadi, aiming to address flooding challenges in the region.
He emphasised that the state government is committed to mitigating flood and erosion problems while optimising water harvested from the floods to boost irrigation agriculture for food security and economic prosperity.
“In fulfilling our campaign promises, we are injecting state resources into the construction of this project to mitigate flood and erosion, as well as enhance agricultural productivity,” Buni said.
