Facebook and Instagram are now back after some hours of service glitches that shut thousands of users from the social media platforms on Tuesday.

Meta’s social media platforms including Facebook, Messenger and Instagram were down worldwide, with many unable to access the social media platforms.

The outage appeared to hit the platforms around 3:45 pm Nigerian time.

Meta spokesperson, Andy Stone, said in a post on X that the company was aware of the current trouble its users experienced.

“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” Stone said.

There were around 200 reports of outages for WhatsApp on Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from several sources, including users.

The outage was among the top trending topics on X (formerly Twitter), with several users saying they had suddenly been logged out of the Meta-owned social media platforms.
