Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has carried out his threat of demolishing houses belonging to suspected kidnappers and armed robbers.

The governor had warned that he had mandated Operation Apakwu; a security outfit launched two weeks ago, to pull down houses belonging to criminals, especially kidnappers and armed robbers.

The demolition squad was led yesterday by the newly appointed Security Adviser for the state’s Southern Senatorial District, Leo Inyambe.

The demolished houses were located in Asabanka village in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state.

Government sources named the suspected kidnappers as Akaninyene Sunday Ifa and Nkpoikana Bassey Etim who are said to hail from Obot Akara LGA of Akwa Ibom State.

According to the sources, the two are alleged to be behind the recent kidnapping of Dr. Vincent Uhuegbu; a cardiologist at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).
