All set as Alhaji Lawal Sani Stores is turnbaned Turakin Katsina today

Today, the Emir of Katsina, His Royal Highness, Dr Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, would turban Alhaji Lawal Sani Stores as the new Turakin Katsina.

This is indeed an honour well deserved going by Turaki’s level of education, wealth of experience and most importantly his compassionate, sympathetic and generous disposition.

Turaki Lawal Sani Stores was born on March 11, 1956 in Katsina, Katsina State. He attended Nasarawa Primary School Katsina from 1962-1967 and Kayalwa Primary School from 1968-1970. He proceeded to Government Secondary School, Daura from 1971-1975. He studied Business Studies at West Bromwich College of Commerce and Technology, Birmingham, England from 1977-1980 and obtained Higher National Diploma in Business Studies. He also attended Bayero University, Kano from 2006-2007 where he obtained a post-graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), specialising in Finance and Investments from 2007-2009.

Turaki worked in the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) for 20 years (1981-2001) and held several managerial positions at NSE before leaving as a Deputy General Manager (DGM).

He joined the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2001 as a Deputy Director and Head of the Stock Exchange division of the Commission where he supervised the entire activities of the Stock market which include Trade monitoring, Price movement, Cross dealings and major deals. He later rose to become a director and head of Registration and Recognized investment Exchanges (RRIE) Department from 2007-2008. He was subsequently appointed as Executive Commissioner of Finance and Administration at SEC from 2008-2012.

During the period he served at Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the new Turaki served at various Committees which include Administrative Proceeding Committee (APC), Investor Protection Fund (IPF), Registration Committee, Amongst others.

He was appointed Board Member Representing North West Region on the Board of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) by President Muhammadu Buhari on January 5, 2023.

He served on the Boards of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), National Pension Commission (PenCom), Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS); and currently on the board of Greenwich Trustees Limited Lagos.

Alhaji Lawal Sani Stores has over 30 years working experience and has been exposed to relevant courses and trainings on capital market operations and regulations.

He has attended several leadership and business courses both locally and internationally at various institutions such as Harvard Business School, Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America (USA); International law Institute. Washington DC, USA; London Graduate School, United Kingdom; Concordia University, Chicago, United States of America; and Birmingham Management Centre, United Kingdom.
