Apart from the impact on their livelihoods, residents are also facing significant safety concerns.

The temporary shelters set up to provide relief have created hygiene challenges, while the fear of rape has been reported in the area, causing further distress and anxiety for the affected individuals.

Zahra Alkali, a resident at the 80 Units Housing Estate, shared her concerns about the situation, revealing that some of her neighbours have already left the area due to the devastating impact of the ongoing flood.

The flooding has also destroyed many farmlands in the area, leaving residents without their primary source of income.

Yohanna Simon, a long-time resident of Bakin Kogi, stated that the flood has destroyed over 100 homes and displaced all petty traders in the area.

He lamented the fact that the flooding has been an ongoing issue for decades, destroying their properties and farms.

Asma’u Bala, another affected resident, expressed her concerns for her family’s safety, stating that over sixty people gather together at night and sleep outside their homes due to fear of the unknown.

Dan Liti, a canoe paddler, described the dire situation, as his family has been displaced, and his wife and children now seek refuge in nearby schools.

The situation remains dire, with residents facing not only the destructive impact of the flood but also the fear of attempted rape, which has been reported in the area.

The affected population is calling on the government for immediate intervention to provide relief and security measures to address their concerns.

The ongoing flooding has left many individuals displaced and struggling to cope with the impact on their lives.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in a press statement issued to newsmen on Saturday, the floods have submerged farms and houses and thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate for safety.

Following heavy downpour on Friday in Adamawa State, which resulted in floods, the situation has prompted for urgent federal government intervention.

The flood was occasioned by the gradual release of water from the Lagdo Dam in the Cameroon Republic.

The NEMA added that collaborative efforts with its Yola office and the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and relevant stakeholders have been put in place to monitor the escalating water levels.

Some of the displaced persons have found temporary shelter with relatives in the host communities, while others are taking refuge in Limawa Primary School, Gwadabawa Secondary School, Gidan Gona Warehouse in Yola North, and AA Namtari Primary School in Yola South LGAs.

NEMA has appealed to the federal government to take swift action to mitigate the devastating impact of the floods and provide much-needed relief to the affected communities.
