Police arrest 2 for allegedly killing 3-week-old child in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has said it arrested two persons for allegedly killing a three-week-old child.
The incident happened at Ungwan Maina, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on October 11, 2022.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, DSP Rahman Nansel and obtained by Daily Trust on Sunday, the arrest of the suspects followed an intensive manhunt while the suspects were on the run after committing the crime.
According to him, the main suspect Abdulkadir Ahmed who is 40-years-old asked his friend Hassan Sabo also of the same age, to lure his estranged wife and mother of his three-week-old baby to his shop opposite Correctional Facility in Lafia under the pretext of seeking reconciliation with her.
The PPRO narrated that when the mother of the child arrived at the shop, the prime suspect Abdulkadir Ahmed took the child into the shop while Hassan Sabo engaged her in a discussion outside and all of a sudden the child screamed and went quiet.
He explained that Ahmed immediately came out of the shop and the mother sought to know what actually made her child scream but the mother of the baby was deceived that the child had gone to sleep.
The mother of the baby was not satisfied with the explanation given by the prime suspect as she rushed into the shop and discovered the lifeless body of her child.
The PPRO affirmed that the culprits immediately left the scene on a motorcycle while the body was evacuated to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia by the police for postmortem examination.
The statement which reads in part stated, “The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Adesina Soyemi ordered a thorough investigation into the unholy and wicked act.
He said, “Police operatives attached to ‘D’ Division, Lafia arrested the suspects Abdulkadir Ahmed and Hassan Sabo both males and 40yrs old of Ungwan Maina, Lafia for killing a three-week-old child.”
However, he revealed that the culprits after a thorough investigation by the command’s personnel attached to the ‘D’ Division, Lafia, were arrested on October 10, 2022, at about 1230hrs.
“The police were notified and the body was swiftly evacuated to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia where it was confirmed dead and subsequently deposited at the morgue for postmortem examination,” the PPRO concluded.
He stated that the investigation into the unfortunate incident is ongoing at State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia after which, the suspects will be charged to court for the prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others.
