The 3rd edition of Lawyers’ 5-aside Football Competition in Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has commenced in grand style on Saturday.

The competition, known as Chief Akinlolu Olujimi SAN Football league 2019, is opened to all law firms in the FCT.

No fewer than 14 teams from 50 law firms in the capital city is participating in this year’s edition which is taking place at the Maitaima Garden and Sports Cafe in Abuja.

Speaking shortly after the opening match of the competition, the Coordinator of the tournament Olujimi Olujide said this year’s competition is particularly unique as more firms were participating compared to the previous editions.

He said: “The main purpose of this competition is to bring another platform for Lawyers, apart from court room and law firms, to relax and interact with one another.

“Apart from that, there is different perspective to this year’s event. We plan it in a league format and it’s going to last for three weeks.

“So, we have more firms, more lawyers participating in the tournament.”

He said incentives for the winning teams and individual awards winners have been scaled up, adding that the winner, second and third places will smile to bank with N250,000, N200,000 and N150,000 respectively.

“This is a special platform, no suit, no wigs, no tie, everybody is free, and we are getting used to each other from different law firms.

He disclosed that the final will come up on the 5th of May 2019.

Olujimi pointed out that the organizer would also visit the Durumi Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camp in the FCT as part of Social Corporate Responsibility while raffle draw will equally be staged where Laptops, Phones and many others gift items will be won.
