Residents of Kusaki community in Gaube ward of Kuje Area Council of the FCT are stranded following a bridge collapse in the area.
A resident of Kusaki, Bissalla Ibrahim, who spoke with our reporter on Saturday, said the bridge collapsed as a result of heavy flood that accompanied a downpour, adding that residents have been finding it difficult to access their farms and neighbouring villages.
He said, “This is over two weeks ago, when the only bridge that connects Kusaki and some neighbouring villages collapsed and since then, residents, especially farmers, have been finding it difficult to access their farms.’’
Ibrahim said the locals had to construct makeshift wooden bridge to enable residents and farmers to cross to their farms.

According to him, farmers engaged women to carry farm produce on their heads to cross the makeshift wooden bridge from where vehicles will now take them to the market in Kuje.
A community leader, Samson Iliya, said residents had been facing untold hardship since the bridge collapsed over a week ago.
He appealed to the authorities of the council under the leadership of Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo to come to the aid of the people by reconstructing the bridge.
An official of the council’s works department, who spoke with our reporter on condition of anonymity, said the council had already received information about the bridge.
He said the council chairman had been briefed and would soon act on it.
