An Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court, Ebonyi, on Wednesday, remanded two men, Anthony Odeh and Amadi Chibuike in a correctional centre for allegedly killing a police corporal.

Odeh, 40 and Chibuike, 34, are facing a two-count charge of murder and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Insp Bassey Okon, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb. 10 at Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State.

Okon said that Odey conspired with Chibuike and others now at large, and shot to death, a serving police corporal, Emeka Kelvin whose force number is: F/No 518032.

The prosecutor said that the offences were punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code cap.33, vol. 1 laws of Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

The pleas of the defendants were not taken.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr C. O Okpere, prayed the court to grant them bail.

The prosecutor opposed the bail application and urged the court to remand the defendants to a correctional centre.

Magistrate Ojemba Isu-Oko rejected the bail application and remanded the defendants in a correctional centre.

He said that the case file and all exhibits should be forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice and adjourned the matter until April 5. (NAN)
