What is wrong with Americans?

Excuse my headline but the writer in me consciously believed it to be the right words to convey my message clearly to the American public. As an African writer who has long been a keen fan and follower of the American socio-economic and political development over the decades and has a broad view of the American Revolution and its historic civil war.

I believe I equally have an extensive knowledge of what this great nation stands for and its indisputable contribution to liberty and democracy across the world.  So, for that reason, I found it crazy that a nation that produced some of the most resilient and famous political leaders in human history who fought patriotically with hope, faith and blood to gain independence from their oppressive colonist and equally fought a bloody civil war to retain its union would now mask its venerable face to contemplate the return of one of its most divisive citizens and leaders ever produced in its highly regarded history. Another Donald Trump as President of the United States no doubt would be the craziest mistake the world had ever seen.

I don’t know if any American writer or citizen could knock my sense into submission to use another better word than ‘what is’ wrong with Americans?’ for my heartfelt article. I feel something is wrong with the American political system to even nurse the idea to allow Donald Trump to ever see the lawn of the White House again after his unprecedented show of shame from any democratically elected American president.

I thought the American public would see it as something wrong to envision the coming back of this un-American whose term in office not only brought about much hatred to the nation but as well instigated the most selfish political power tussle in its political history and almost ruined its esteemed democracy. It was previously a respected democratic system that was admired and imitated by other nations across the world.

I don’t know if the American political class did a thorough self-search, specifically the Republicans on whose clipped wings Donald Trump plans to fly into the White House again?  I mean can’t they see the wrong in the idea?  As a crass proposal that would further rubbish their dented reputation once they succumb timidly to the warp self-centred political vision and ideology of Trump and his numb followers?

I believe that the Republican’s vision can’t clearly see or has refused to see the fact that if given a second chance America under Donald Trump would finally fulfill the long held prediction of the fall and disintegration of the US Empire, this great nation of many components and people? Who really needs another ‘crazy Trump’ in the White House at this era when the world is battling with various forms of human trepidation?

I believe like other millions of Africans that the world does not need another bully President from America.  Our porous but friendly and hospitable continent does not need another ‘shithole’ Donald Trump to come and cast his poisonous apparition and instigating rhetoric on its fragile frame. We are suspicious of a Donald Trump as ‘President’ that could burn down our legislative edifice and rundown our wobbling democracy into oblivion. We rather manage its experimental framework than succumb to his dictatorial and bully approach. We are against the agenda of a second Trump term.

The world does not really need another President Donald Trump who lacks class, compassion, wisdom and wit.  Why should the American voters vote in another era of mistrust, rhetoric and deceit with Donald Trump as president?   The American extremists clamoring for the return of Trump to the White House to me appear blind, timid and crazy to nurse the idea to hand over power to a troll once again to take over their collective harmony and  crudely define their vision of a peaceful planet to the rest of the world.

Isn’t it wrong for Americans to return a bully Goliath to face an underdog David at the front instead of retailing its respectful stand of always standing on the side of the underdog in every situation? How regretful that the American public could easily forget the undemocratic attack on the media, the judiciary and other democratic institutions by Donald Trump during his dismal tenure.

What went wrong with the Americans that preached humanity and fought for the freedom of all race and class in its big and diverse setting?  The America that once upon a time produced great presidents like  Lincoln, Washington,  Grant, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Carter, Regan, Clinton , Bush, Obama and the others. Why think of another Donald Trump when not too long ago the same unapologetic showman turned president incited a mob to raid the Capitol and almost staged a civilian coup in the world’s most popular democracy?

I think something is absolutely wrong with Americans not to note that the White House could be his next target to raid in his next coming with his fanatical mob.  There is a popular notion in this part that ‘’ a mad man is always a mad man no matter his cure’’. I don’t think Americans would be daft enough to mortgage their future and fate in the hands of a ‘mad man’ for another four disgraceful years unless if truly something is wrong with them.

They have a moral opportunity at the moment to choose between a humanist, Kamara Harris who epitomize ‘Freedom and joy’  or a bullish Donald Trump, who glaringly epitomize ‘Fear and sorrow.’ The decision is left to them to create a friendly present and future for their nation and continuous freedom for themselves and their next generation.
