The Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO), Oshodi Lagos said it has over the years made meaningful contributions to the economic development of Nigeria.

It faulted the Human and Environmental Development Agency, (HEDA) over its claim that the institute is underperforming and failing to fulfill the purpose of its existence.

The Civil Society Organisation, CSO had on Sunday, March 24, addressed a letter to President Bola Tinubu, expressing dissatisfaction over the current state of the institute and calling for the removal of the Director-General, Dr Jummal Tutuwa.

But in response to HEDA, the institute in a statement signed by its spokesman, Chris Olumuyiwa described the claims as unverified, affirming that the institute is fulfilling its purpose of existence.

It said, “…We wish to state in clear terms that the Federal Institute of Industrial Research has over the years made meaningful contributions to the economic development of Nigeria through the provision of technologies that can accelerate industrialisation in the country. We have not deviated from this mandate.

“Recent comments over the state of affairs in FIIRO were made from a point of ignorance and deliberate attempt to mislead the Nigeria populace.

“Presently, all the technical departments of the institute are engaged in at least four research activities per department to meet with the socioeconomic yearnings of Nigerians.

“Renovation works have been ongoing to make the premises more conducive for members of staff in order to boost productivity.

“Our pilot plants, fabrication workshops and laboratories are producing optimally. The commendation from the Honourable Minister for Innovation and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, over development in FIIRO attests to the fact that we are on course.
