We are fully ready for Edo gov’ship election — INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said yesterday that it is fully prepared for the September 10 governorship election in Edo State.
Special Adviser to the Commission’s chairman, Professor Mohammad Kuna, said this yesterday in Benin at a stakeholders meeting on public presentation of the security threat assessment for the governorship election, organised by CLEEN Foundation.
He noted that the commission was well equipped in terms of human and capital resources to conduct credible election, adding that all stakeholders must work together to ensure a violence free polls.
Also, Professor Mim Abutudu of the University of Benin, in his presentation, said rigging and fear of electoral manipulation could be a high risk factor that could raise the level of violence.
 He, however, called on INEC to ensure that materials were deployed to various polling units on time.
In his remark, the Executive Director, CLEEN Foundation, Mr. Benson Olugbuo, said one of the foundation’s cardinal objectives was to monitor and report the level of security threat to the conduct of elections in Nigeria.
