Ukraine has commended Nigeria on the support for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution of the five-year Russian aggression of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Valerii Aleksandruk made this known during a press briefing yesterday in Abuja.
The UNGA resolution 68/262 “Territorial Integrity of Ukraine,” called on all states, international organizations and specialized agencies to “recognize the sovereignty, political independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its international recognized borders,” considering Russia’s act of occupying Crimea and the city of Sevastopol as violation.
“Nigeria voted for the resolution alongside many other African countries, which Ukraine greatly appreciates,” Mr. Aleksandruk said.
He also remarked that despite the sanctions imposed on Russia, the Federation “has continued blatant violations of basic human rights.”
“This is the tip of an iceberg of Russia’s ongoing massive campaign of breaches of norms and principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter, international humanitarian, maritime and human rights law,” he stated.
