Ahmed Musa hails Shehu Dikko on appointment as NSC Chairman

The captain of the Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa, has extended his warm congratulations to former vice-president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Malam Shehu Dikko, on his appointment as the Chairman of the reinstated National Sports Commission (NSC).

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday, October 23, scrapped the hitherto Federal Ministry of Sports and announced the return of the NSC which was scrapped in 2016 by the then Minister of Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung.

The President also appointed a marketing expert, Malam Shehu Dikko, to lead the restored sports commission with the mandate to revitalize the sports sector.

In his congratulatory message on Friday, the most capped Super Eagles player said Dikko’s wealth of experience in sports administration, especially the game of football is the reason for the overwhelming acceptance of his appointment.

He said as a marketing guru, the new Chairman of the NSC is the most suitable person to earnestly drive the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu in the sector that is inarguably the most potent tool that has continued to unite the heterogeneous country.

“The appointment of Shehu Dikko didn’t come to me as a surprise because he personifies everything that is required to reposition sports in Nigeria.

“Considering the fact that sports development is capital intensive, and the government has so many other contending issues to deal with amidst limited resources, only a vibrant young man with Dikko’s international exposure and business acumen can transform the sector into a lucrative business.

“Having had the opportunity to relate closely with Dikko while he served as NFF 2nd vice-president, I know his passion for sports especially football, and I have no iota of doubt in my mind that he will put this opportunity to good use by working closely with genuine stakeholders to take sports to higher heights.

“He is has the prerequisite knowledge and experience to drive the sector. Therefore, like many other Nigerians have said already, he is a round peg in a round hole. Surely, Dikko is going to leave indelible footprints in the sports sector,” said Musa.

The most successful Super Eagles player at the FIFA World Cup and Kano State Sports Ambassador, therefore, called on all well-meaning stakeholders in the sector to collaborate with the new Chairman to uplift sports in Nigeria.

He said without the cooperation of everyone, the changes everyone is clamouring for will remain elusive because a tree can’t make a forest.

“Even as Dikko has come fully prepared to serve, he still needs the unwavering support of other stakeholders to actualize his vision for sports. He is approachable, selfless and compassionate.

“Therefore, I call on everyone to team up with him in this national assignment. Moreover, in recent times, this is the first time that a technocrat has been appointed to superintend over sports and I have no iota of doubt in my mind that Dikko will justify the confidence reposed in him by Mr. President,” the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) concluded.
