Travel firm unpaid N8.5m 8 months after Calabar carnival

Eight months after the Calabar Carnival held in Calabar the Cross River State, Diplomat Travels and Tourism Agency Ltd, a vendor said it has not been paid for its services.

The Managing Director/CEO of the agency, Mr. Akor Otobo, said the Calabar Carnival Commission, the agency responsible for paying vendors, owes the agency N8.5 million on air tickets for foreign participants at the carnival.

Mr. Otobo also said he took a bank loan at high-interest rate to pay Turkish, Egypt and Emirates Airlines tickets, and he wouldn’t want to put his IATA license to operate a travel and tour company in jeopardy.

The Chairman, Calabar Tourism Commission, Sir Gabe Onah, confirmed that the vendor is still being owed but said he will be paid.

“While regretting this unfortunate turn of events, I assured Mr Otobo very recently and other such vendors and ad-hoc staff to give us some time to sort out our internal.

“I want to believe that these will all come to pass and soon,” he said in a text message.
