A 20-year-old groom-to-be, Kabiru Osamatu, from Galadimawa village in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has been arrested for allegedly killing his older brother over debt.
According to the suspect, the deceased, his biological brother, refused to repay a debt owed him.
Kabiru, who was paraded by the State Police Command, confessed to having stabbed his brother in the neck with a knife while they were riding on the same motorcycle near Galadima River.
The suspect said, “He owed me and I told him to pay me the debt because my wedding was approaching and I needed the money for the ceremony but he refused to pay.”

He further revealed that he reported the matter to their mother who advised him to borrow two bags of grains belonging to his older brother, sell them, and then repay him after the wedding.
However, Kabiru said the brother kept pressurising him to repay the debt for the grains, which he couldn’t afford.
He said on the day of the incident, he asked the brother for a ride on the motorcycle and used the opportunity to stab him.
He left the brother’s body near a river and returned home with his motorcycle.
According to him, it was his first time committing murder.
The state Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the suspect would be charged to court.
He confirmed that the deep cut on the deceased’s neck led to his death.
