President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi, have lauded the Super Falcons for their superb performance in their match against the England team.

The president, in a tweet on X space @officialABAT, said: “I must commend the effort by our Super Falcons @NGSuperFalcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Your brilliant performance did not go unnoticed despite the final outcome. You made Nigeria proud on the global stage!”

Also, the First Lady, in a statement by her spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, said she was very proud of the girls, who she said played their hearts out in the Round of 16 encounter of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Mrs Tinubu who watched the match with the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, and the wife of Senate President, Mrs Ekaette Akpabio described the match as a tension-soaked encounter.

Also, the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar stated he had no regret missing his breakfast to watch them play.

“We may have lost to England in a penalty shootout, but the Super Falcons have every reason to hold their heads high. I still have no regrets about skipping my breakfast for this game,” he wrote on X.

A former House of Representatives Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha commended the team for their resilience.

“The resilience of our Nigerian team against England must be commended irrespective of the end result. We are super proud of you all,” the former Imo State governor wrote on X.

In the same vein, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki also took to the microblogging platform to express his pride despite the defeat.

“Despite the heartbreak of the penalty shootout, I am proud of the Super Falcons for their incredible journey in the #FIFAWWC. And you ladies should be proud of what you have achieved,” he said.

The Upper Chamber also commended the players following a point of order by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, during the plenary session yesterday.

Raising a point of order on personal explanation, Senator Barau requested the parliament to commend the Super Falcons for their efforts during the match against the English team.

“The commendation will encourage the players to do more in future competitions. Aside from the Super Falcons, it would encourage other youths in the country to engage in things that would be beneficial to them and the country,” he said.

Responding, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, commended the team for making the country proud.

“Our young girls who went to battle in the World Cup have made the country proud. We must commend them for displaying their talent. We believe strongly that in the future they will do better by God’s grace,” he said.

The Super Falcons lost 4-2 on penalties to their England counterparts after the completion of regulation time and extra time at the ongoing FIFA Women World Cup tournament.
