A magistrates’ court in Jos, Plateau State, on Wednesday, sentenced an 18-year-old trader, Ahmad Bashir, to one year in prison for stealing and resisting arrest.
The magistrate, Tapmwa Gotep, who sentenced Bashir after he pleaded guilty to the offence, however, gave him an option of fine: N5,000 on the first count and N5,000 on the second count.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Emmanuel Awe, told the court that the case was reported on June 26 by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Awe said that the suspect had a long dagger he used in collecting cell phones from victims.
He said, “When he was arrested, he jumped out of the security van but was caught again.” (NAN)
