Kano man remanded for beating brother to death

A magistrates’ court in Kano, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a 37-year-old man, Jamilu Ahmed, in a correctional facility for beating his younger brother, Alhassan (30), to death.

The police charged Ahmed, who resides at Chediyar Kuda Quarters, Kano, with culpable homicide.

The prosecutor, Aminu Dandago, told the court that Ahmed committed the offence on February 13, at Chediyar Kuda Quarters, Kano.

Dandago said that on the date at about 10pm, Ahmed hit his younger brother repeatedly on the stomach during a misunderstanding.

He further said the younger brother sustained internal injuries and was taken to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, where he died.

The Magistrate, Farouk Ibrahim-Umar, who did not take the plea of Ahmed, directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice, and adjourned to September 8.
