The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has raised the alarm over the vandalism of its transmission lines across the Port Harcourt region.

The Port Harcourt region general manager of the agency, Dr Inugonum Thomas, said this in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt at the weekend.

He said the TCN transmission lines in Odukpani, Calabar, Elelenwo in Port Harcourt and other areas under its region are being vandalized by criminals.

He warned that residents close to the vandalised installations are in danger of losing their lives.

“Each of these transmission lines, if you vandalise or remove the members of the tower and allow it to stand, with heavy breeze, it will fall.

“If it falls, it will pull all the stands and these are high-voltage lines. Anything it touches turns to charcoal.  It will roast anything it comes in contact with.

“When people are doing this evil thing, they are not thinking because the people they will kill are so many. Once that tower rests on any house in the night, if it is 100 houses, nobody will come out.

“That is the plain truth. What we are talking about here is 130,000 voltage you can see the magnitude. A few weeks ago, our men were kidnapped in Owerri, and the same thing in Afam. That is where I saw some people in the bush.”
