An integrated agricultural company, Saro Oil Palm Limited, has commenced the development of a 10,000-hectare oil palm plantation in Orhionmwon local government of Edo State.

The Managing Director of the company, Dr. Tunde Faturonti, stated this during a facility tour and meeting with leaders of Evboesi community in the local government.

Faturonti said the company was setting up a 30-hectare nursery and that the plan is to plant 400,000 nuts this year.

“The plan is that, when we have the pre-germinated nuts, we plant them and nurse them for three months. After three months, we will now transfer them to the nursery in a bigger bag,” he stated.

The Team Lead of the Edo State Oil Palm Programme (ESOPP), Mr Churchill Oboh, said Saro Oil Palm Limited has recorded impressive progress with the project’s implementation in Evboesi community.

“When we started our engagements with communities to cooperate with investors, some community leaders refused to cooperate with them. But Evboesi is a success story because the leaders saw well ahead that the government means well for Edo people.”

He urged the leaders to cooperate with the government and investors to transform all the communities in the state.

The Ohenosa of Evboesi, Chief Billy Akongie, said they were pleased with what Saro is doing in the community as they had situations in the past where previous governments brought investors who did not deliver the projects.
