Jingir who addressed newsmen yesterday in Jos advised the National Assembly to amend the Constitution and the Electoral Act to provide enabling environment for a true independent electoral system.
He said, “Wherever we hear about political crisis, definitely the actors deviate from the rules of the system, and the prime rule of the process in politics is justice and fair play, and this cannot be achieved without an impartial umpire that is truly independent to prepare the ground for all the actors in the system.”
Jingir said, “We have a serious problem with the Nigeria’s electoral system, our votes are not counted, rigging has become the order of the day, lack of respect for the rule of law, greed, electoral violence. Whoever grabs political leadership through illegal means, we end up having looters as leaders, criminals in the security system that would create more confusion and continue to overheat the polity without any recourse”.
He said, “To go out of this menace, we need to have an independent system that is devoid of any external forces, a body that is financially independents which would not be influence by either the government of the day or individuals and groups, this system I believe would produce leaders that would not discriminate and carry everybody alone. When we have a credible electoral system, it’s would produce leaders with the true mandate of the people, they would not temper with the system, they would respect the rule of law, we would not experience political tension and the end results is experiencing absolute peace in the country”.
Jingir advised politicians to learn from the Offa LG election where he said a good Nigerian rejected a false mandate and asked INEC to return the victory to the rightful winner of the election.
