The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has said the disturbing spate of insecurity in Nigeria has a long-standing historical development that relates to economic failure and the collapse of the local government system.

The ACF Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbe, who stated this in Kaduna Thursday while responding to questions from journalists, described Nigeria’s security challenges as complex.

He said things had happened steadily for a while and it would take time for Nigeria to move out of that state.

Ogbe, a former minister of Agriculture in the first term of President Muhammadu Buhari said, “The immediate causes may be some acts of failure on the part of the present government but there are long-standing historical developments that brought us to this level.”

“I may repeat what I said to the Senate in 2018, it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to survive, it is the cost of living and cost of credits even for those who want to set up businesses and create jobs.”

The ACF chairman said many Nigerians had taken to alternative ways of surviving by plunging into criminality, adding that such problems had given birth to the challenges in the country.

“The other issue is a complete failure of the local government system. Now, it is easy to blame President Muhammadu Buhari, but rarely does anybody blame the state government or local government, yet each of these tiers receive some revenue which they are supposed to use for the development of the community,” he said.
