The Centre for Information Technology and Development, CITAD, has recorded 61 cases of Gender-based violence (GBV) in Kano State within the months of September and December.

This is part of its continuing effort to curb GBV in the society and to promote the wellbeing of women and the girl child, including creating a safe and secure educational environment with support from Ford Foundation.

The centre has implemented a project titled “Strengthening Citizens Response and Protection Against Gender Based Violence in Kano, Nigeria” aimed at achieving a serene atmosphere for women and girls free from gender violence and discrimination.

This involves stakeholders’ engagement, advocacy, tracking and monitoring of GBV incidences in order to make informed statements.

Speaking to newsmen in Kano, the Gender Project Program Officer, Zainab Aminu, said the objective of the initiative was to create public visibility of the menace and sensitize all stakeholders to take action in addressing it.
