Also charged alongside Beks is Shipping World’s managing editor, Sylvanus Ekpo and the editor, Chukwunonso Udeh.
In a 30 point originating summons, Dikko Inde averred among others: · That sometime in July, 2014, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th accused persons jointly authored, edited a five paged article captioned “Dikko’s Customs Stinks” with the rider “Presidency shops for replacement” and published same in the July, 2014 edition of the 1st accused person’s Shipping World magazine.
· That the said article jointly authored and published by the accused persons, concerning the Complainant are false, malicious and baseless.
· That the said article jointly authored and published by the accused in their Shipping World magazine of July 2014 edition, concerning the Complainant are highly defamatory, libelous, mischievous and a calculated attempt to destroy the hard earned reputation and professional career without any justification whatsoever.
· That the offensive article/publications jointly authored and edited by the 2nd, 3rd and 4th accused persons and published by the 1st accused as contained in page 11, 12, 13 and 14 of their July 2014 edition, in their natural and ordinary meaning portrayed the 2nd Complainant as a common criminal, a dictator, an economic saboteur, a disrespectful man, a dishonest person, a corrupt person, a man of questionable character, a smuggler, an incompetent person and a person unfit to occupy the position as Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service.
· That the Complainant is in pains and agony and wants justice for the malicious publication authored and published by the accused persons but have no other place to get justice other than coming to the court.
The case has been slated for hearing on Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Seniour Magistrate Court, Life Camp, Abuja by 9am.
