I was received with respect in Kannywood – Amina Indomie

Amina S. Umar is an upcoming Kannywood actress who became popular within a short time. Born in Kano, the young actress talks about what motivated her to join the film industry among other issues.

Who is Amina S. Umar?

I am a Kannywood actress with about five films to my credit. My name is Amina S. Umar, aka Amina Indomie. I was born 22 years ago in Kano State and I had my primary and secondary schools’ education in Kano State. I later got married.

However, the marriage did not work out and I got divorced. After the divorce, I decided to pursue my childhood dream of becoming an actress. That was how I ventured into acting and I have been in the industry for over two years now.

Why did you join Kannywwod?

As I said earlier, acting has been my childhood passion. I have always wanted to be an actress despite the fact that I didn’t know how to become one. The passion to be an actress has been in me for quite a long time, but as a child I had other things to do first, like getting an education. After secondary school, I got married but the marriage crashed.

While at home trying to pick up the pieces of my life, the passion to be an actress welled up. Along the line, I met one of Kannywood’s film producers, Sani Indomie. It was through him that the opportunity to explore my childhood passion came through.

He gave me the chance to be part of the filmmaking business and that was how I got introduced into the business and within a short period, I was able to prove my worth in the entertainment industry.

Did you get the stage name Indomie from him?

No, not at all. I got the name from my role model, Kannywood superstar actress Zainab Indomie. I love the way she acts and she always fascinates me with the way she interprets her roles. Though, I had never met her before I joined the industry, people kept telling me I look like her. Then some of my colleagues began calling me Amina Indomie. That was how the sobriquet became attached to my name.

How many films have you starred in so far?

I have featured in more than five films in my over two years stay in Kannywood.

How would you describe the industry after joining?

Kannywood is a very interesting place to be, it gives you the opportunity to meet all shades of people. It is also a place where one gets the opportunity to learn on the job as well as to attain perfection in one’s chosen sector.

As a new actress, I was received with respect and concern, I felt at home with everyone and the support I got from my colleagues is something worth remembering.

Which film shot you to limelight?

Well, I don’t think I am in a position to determine that, but to my understanding, the films ‘Kareema’ and ‘Tumbin Giwa’ projected me to the public as an upcoming actress. However, I may be wrong as it could be one of the other films.

Do you intend to continue with your education?

Yes, I do. My next plan is to enrol in school to continue with my studies because that has been my parents’ wish after my failed marriage. While in the industry, I figured out that there is a need for me to further my studies and that is what I am planning to do now. Though I know it is not going to be as easy as it may look, because mixing acting and studies wouldn’t be that simple, but I am determined to do that irrespective of the difficulties.

How would you describe your resolve to join Kannywood?

My resolve to join Kannywood was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. I was overwhelmed with a lot of issues, including my failed marriage. However, when the opportunity to actualize my childhood dream came, I felt saved because joining the industry gave me the opportunity to forge ahead.

Are you in a relationship?

I don’t want to go into that in public. Don’t worry, you will get to know when the right time comes.

What is your target in Kannywwod?

As I said earlier, my role model is Zainab Indomie and I want to be as famous as Zainab to the extent that the history of Kannywood will never be complete without mentioning my name. I want to be part of the industry’s development.
