Street hawking is the act of selling goods and services on the streets to the public. It is the selling of things from one read to another. Street hawking is very common in Nigeria and it is done almost all the time by young children.
Street hawking is mostly done by poor, uneducated Nigerian families as a means of livelihood, they resort to hawking as the cost of the business is quite cheap compared to other businesses.
Most people who engage in street hawking do not know the dangers their lives are exposed to and some of those who know those dangers tend to overlook it as it’s their only means of survival.
Street hawking poses a lot of danger to those engaging in it, especially to children. The effect is alarming and it should be discouraged. Some of these effects include educational deprivation, physical and public health problems, child abuse and also exposure of children to crime or they become victims of crime.
Therefore, I urge the government to look for solutions to this serious issue confronting Nigerian society mostly our youths. Government should look for better ways to engage these traders and empower them
This country must not be allowed to collapse, government should stand up to its duty and responsibility to provide a good life to its citizens.
