The Director of Blossomhall School, Utako, Abuja, Mrs Adeola Remi-John, has urged parents to allow their children to do the primary six class before proceeding to secondary school.
Remi-John stated this during the 2023/2024 end of session graduation ceremony of the school on Saturday.
She said: “ There is still a lot to learn in primary six class. It’s not just Maths and English or only academics. Some of these children start school very early so when they do primary six, it helps them to grow more physiological and psychologically.
“My advice to parents is that they allow their children and wards to reach primary six. We are encouraging parents not to skip primary six for their children. It’s very important. The government says nine years of basic education. But over time, parents have found a way to truncate it.”

She said one of the ways government can help to address the issue is by standardising the curriculum.
“I don’t know the last time the curriculum we are using now was reviewed. If the government will standardise and review the curriculum and keep adding new things to it, there will be essential things for pupils to learn. Like the National Curriculum of England that we intend to follow, they review it from time to time and that is why you can’t skip it over there.” Remi- John said.
The Director of Education Centre, Abuja Hajiya Neemat Daud- Abdulrahim, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Mrs Elizabeth Faseyi, urged the graduating pupils to embrace every opportunity to learn, believe in themselves, dare to dream big and remember that with determination and perseverance, anything is possible.
