Six die in fatal accident on Sagamu-Benin expressway

Six people were burnt to death in multiple accidents involving a truck and two commercial buses at J4 area, Ogbere, on Sagamu-Benin expressway.

The accident which occurred on Wednesday comes barely 24 hours after 9 people were killed in Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash.

It was gathered that the unmarked container-truck, heading towards the eastern part of the country, had a head-on collision with a bus at a diversion area along the expressway.

It was further gathered that another bus rammed into the two vehicles which spark-off the fire that burned the victims.

No fewer than sixteen people were reportedly involved in the accident out of which six were burnt to death.

The spokesman of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the incident, disclosed a bus conductor and two women were burnt “beyond recognition.”

He blamed the accident on wrong over taking and dangerous driving on the part of the truck driver.

The TRACE publicist said remains of the victims have been evacuated and deposited at the morgue in General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode.

He said, “Out of the three vehicles involved in the accident, our operatives could only get the number plate of one of the commercial buses as BDG 06XP.”
