The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi, has begged President Muhammadu Buhari to reactivate the Chad Basin Development Authority for wheat and rice production as in the past.

The monarch made the plea when he received the president in his palace during a one-day state working visit to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

The paramount ruler told the president that for the past eight years, the basin has not been operational as a result of the insurgency and the destruction of its fans and powerhouses.

“In view of the resettlement and return of displaced communities in the zone, it deems it appropriate to prevail on your excellency to reactivation of the vandalized facilities and powerhouses as well as the extension of the national grid in the area,” he said.

The traditional ruler also appealed to the president to intervene in the reconstruction of the Dikwa/Marte/Monguno roads which are within the basin areas to promote the socioeconomic wellbeing of the communities to enhance the mobility of people, goods, and farm produce with a view to enhanced the national economy.
