There was chaos at the main entrance of the National Assembly yesterdayas members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) infiltrated an ongoing peaceful protest by the Advocates for Good Governance (AGG), and threatened to pull down the gate.
The AGG protesters had stormed the National Assembly gate as early as 8.00am, demanding that an open voting process be used in the election of the leaders of incoming 9th Assembly.
However, few hours later, the IMN group joined the protesters. At that point the security personnel at the gate rushed and locked up the gate.
However, the surging Islamic group rushed at the gate, and threatened to pull it down if the security personnel did not unlock it.
It was at this point that words got to the Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun, who was presiding over a Committee of the Whole, after Dogara had finished presiding over the plenary proceedings in line with the tradition of the House.
Lasun, however, delegated some lawmakers to interface with the security agencies, after which normalcy was restored at the entrance gate.
