The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has disbursed over N10m to 250 households affected by the 2022 flooding in Gijiwa and Gusoro communities in Shiroro LGA of Niger State.
The NRCS’ Head of Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning, Sani Muhammed Ibrahim, while disbursing the cash to the beneficiaries at the IBB Primary School, Minna, said the disbursement was in conjunction with the Islamic Relief Worldwide, a UK-based charity organisation.
He said each of the households was supported with N30,500 to cushion the effects of the flood that destroyed their farmlands and houses during the 2022 flooding, noting that the cash was supposed to have been disbursed January but due to some issues.
He explained that the communities were selected based on the severity of impact of the disaster on their means of livelihoods and houses, adding that 65 per cent of the beneficiaries were women, especially pregnant and lactating mothers, as well as People Living With Disabilities (PLWD).
