Four police officers have received awards in Taraba State for rejecting N8.5 million bribe from suspected kidnappers.

The commissioner of police in the state, David Iloy Anomon, presented the awards to the officers during a ceremony held in his office in Jalingo yesterday.

The officers honoured are Inspector Difference Tih, Inspector Ngamarju Gambi, Inspector Usman Haruna and CPL Zarudeen Mamuda.

He commended the officers for the honesty and patriotism they demonstrated while discharging their duties.

“It has become necessary to recognise and applaud the outstanding ethical rectitude exhibited by some officers and men of 40 PMF while conducting stop-and-search at the Kpanti-Napu checkpoint along the Jalingo-Yola road.

“Despite the huge amount of money offered by the suspects as bribe to the officers, they rejected it and arrested them,” the CP said.

Speaking with journalists, the officers expressed appreciation to the police commissioner for recognising them, and pledged to dedicate themselves more for the service of their fatherland and combating crimes as their main focus.

Meanwhile, three officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) attached to Zone 16 headquarters in Bayelsa State have been dismissed over corrupt practices and other misconducts.

Daily Trust Saturday gathered that the dismissed officers were earlier tried for discreditable conducts and corrupt practices.

The zonal public relations officer of the command, CSP Ikwo Kelvin Lafieghe, in a statement on Friday in Yenagoa, noted that the action was to rid the force of bad eggs.

She stated that the affected personnel include Inspectors Edet Inamete, Jeremiah Oreeke and Uche Collins.
