Three abducted victims were rescued after a fierce gun battle between police operatives of the FCT Police Command and suspected kidnappers at a forest, which borders FCT and Nasarawa State.

The FCT Police Commissioner, Benneth Igweh, disclosed this to journalists when he reunited the victims with their families on Saturday at Rubochi Police Divisional headquarters.

He said the victims, Ali Shehu, Manu Namang and Yusuf Shehu, were abducted by kidnappers at the Awawa village in Kwali Area Council of the FCT last Thursday.

He said the police operatives from Robuchi Division with some local hunters led the operatives to the kidnappers’ den and engaged them in a gun battle and in the process, the kidnappers fled and abandoned the victims.

He said some of the kidnappers escaped with bullet wounds, even as he said the police operatives were trailing them.

The commissioner also disclosed that two notorious kidnappers were arrested at the Agamati village in Wamba LGA of Nasarawa State by the anti-violence crime section of the FCT Police Command.

According to him, the suspects, Shuaibu Hassan and Idris Hassan, were arrested during an operation led by DPO of Utako Police Division, CSP Victor Geoffrey.

He said, “These two notorious kidnappers who have been terrorizlsing residents of Abuja and neighbouring Nasarawa State have also confessed to have two AK -47 rifles among other weapons which they use during their operation.”

The police commissioner said that one of the suspects further confessed to have received a sum of N350,000 as part of the proceed from the kidnapping of one Alhaji Sarajo Ya’u, even as he said the suspects were cooperating and aiding operatives to track down other fleeing gang members.
