Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested five suspects, Awolowo Simon, Endurance Nasiru, Osifo Johnson, Imole Ayomide and Nasiru Kester, for allegedly involving in cultism.

The command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, said the police arrested the suspects while on a patrol on Ogunmwenyin Road, GRA, Benin City.

He said the police intercepted a Lexus RX 350 with Reg No: HER 74 EN, driven by Awolowo Simon, adding that the operatives searched the vehicle and recovered a live cartridge.

He furthers said Awolowo made a statement which led the police to his residence at No 41, Omogiate Street, off Ogunmwenyin Road, GRA, Benin City, where four other members of his secret cult, Endurance Nasiru, Osifo Johnson, Imole Ayomide and Nasiru Kester, were arrested and a locally made cut-to-size gun and three rounds of live cartridges were recovered from them.

In a related development, the police arrested three other suspects, Godwin Jatto (30), Samuel Timothy (23) and Abubakar Abdulrahaman over being in possession of firearms in Esan Central and Etsako West LGAs.

Nwabuzor explained that Jatto and Timothy were arrested in Illemhen Quarters, Ugbegun, in Esan Central LGA while abdulrahaman was arrested in Etsako West LGA, adding that items recovered from them included a locally made pistol, a revolver pistol, four 9mm ammunition and five charms.
