Rising from a one-day meeting at its national secretariat in Abuja, the Elder’s Council of the Union which was chaired by Dr. Olusola Saraki, noted that the non completion of the project is a major setback to the industrialisation and economic development of the country.
The meeting equally set up an in-house committee to visit the steel complex and furnish them with first hand information on the state of the complex.
In a related development, the union called on the Northern Governors to resuscitate the textile industries and end the Almajiri phenomenon in the region. The Union condemned the bombing of Atlas Cove and called on Niger Delta militants to end violence and embrace dialogue and government offer of amnesty.
The Forum also used the opportunity to condole the people of the Niger Delta over the death of Professor Omafume Onoge.The Group described Omafume as a world class intellectual who contributed to the development of his community, the Niger Delta and Nigeria through his collaborative effort with NU to foster unity between the south-south and the Northern Nigeria.
